Mainfreight has opened its largest Australian warehouse and transport facility in Dandenong South. This expansive site is designed to enhance operational efficiency and maintain product quality for the beverage industry through significant investment in advanced warehousing technology.
The facility features several different storage solutions.
• Satellite racking which maximises efficiency by condensing storage into a single space with multiple layers, eliminating the need for aisles between racking. This is particularly beneficial for customers with high volumes of single batch SKUs.
• Mezzanine floors that ensure high-activity areas such as bottle picking, relabelling, and other value-added services are conducted in a dedicated and safe environment.
• Vehicle telematics further enhance safety and efficiency during delivery by ensuring optimal transport conditions, preventing spoilage, and improving product quality and compliance. This technology also supports real-time monitoring, theft prevention, and customer satisfaction through reliable delivery and transparency.
The 30,000m² temperature-controlled warehousing space features two separate zones of 2,900m² and 700m² for chilled storage. Products requiring controlled temperatures are loaded and unloaded within these zones using recessed docks to ensure they maintain their required temperature throughout handling.
The 10,000m² container-rated hardstand operated by Mainfreight’s wharf business on the same site accommodates 500 containers and offers 24 refrigerated container points, ensuring seamless storage and transportation of beverage import and exports.
Sustainability plays a pivotal role in Mainfreight’s facility design.
The new Dandenong facility embraces sustainability with over 2,770 solar panels and 1.7 million litres of rainwater storage, showcasing Mainfreight's dedication to eco-friendly operations. Additional features such as potable water availability and electric vehicle charging stations highlight the company's comprehensive approach to sustainable logistics solutions.
