Drinks Association members are supporting the COVIDSafe App to help the Australia drinks industry get back to business as usual.
The COVIDSafe App speeds up the Government's ability to contact people exposed to coronavirus (COVID-19). Downloading the App protects individuals and those around them, while also assisting to control the spread of the virus.
Widespread downloading of the COVIDSafe App is key to easing restrictions in Australia.
Last week, Prime Minister Scott Morrison said getting Australians “back in the pub” is contingent on more people downloading the App.
“Now if that isn’t an incentive for Australians to download COVIDSafe, I don’t know what is,” he said.
“The degree to which we can confidently reduce restrictions depends on how many people have downloaded the COVIDSafe App. So I’d encourage people to do just that.
“And I’d encourage them, if they’re talking to each other on Zoom, if they’re having a cold one later on and if they’re looking forward to doing it in a pub, well that is a prerequisite to even getting to that conversation.”
CUB is among those backing the call. The brewer noted: "Like most Australians we’re all keen to get back to our favourite watering hole or restaurant. Nothing’s better than a cold one from a keg, or a Carlton Draught straight from one of our tanks!
"And the small businesses that run most of Australia’s pubs need to get back – they’re doing it very tough. Some may not survive. The National Cabinet has said that the first step to re-opening pubs is more people downloading the COVIDSafe app – so State and Territory Governments can better trace any outbreaks of COVID-19. We’re encouraging all our employees, and people who enjoy a beer, to download the COVIDSafe app to get Australia going again and support local pubs, clubs and restaurants."
Alison Watkins, Group Managing Director at Coca-Cola Amatil, said: "We’ve recommended to all team members in Australia to follow advice from the Australian Government and local health departments and download and use the App ASAP. If you are reading this and are based in Australia – we ask you to consider it as well.
"By downloading the App we are protecting ourselves and those around us, and helping control the spread of the virus, which paves the way for the easing of restrictions and a return to business for everyone."
Drinks Association CEO Georgia Lennon said she had joined industry leaders in downloading the App.
"The Drinks Association is proud to be supporting the drinks industry with our services during this critical time and we look forward to working with our members to build an even stronger future," Lennon said.
"We encourage everyone to download the App, as it is a vital step in that journey."
