Respect in Drinks Charter launches with 19 founding signatories

An initiative developed by the Drinks Association’s Embrace Difference Council, the Respect in Drinks Charter aims to create a safer, more inclusive and respectful liquor industry.

A unified vision of respect and inclusion

The 19 founding signatories to the Charter represent a significant proportion of the liquor industry, including family-owned Australian businesses and large, multinational corporations. Combined, they have a total employee pool of 15,000+ and reach all corners of the industry through supplier, customer and partner relationships.

The founding signatories include:

The signatories share a commitment to making a positive difference to our industry and fostering an environment where diverse talent feels respected, welcomed, and empowered to thrive.

Respect in Drinks Charter principles

At its core, the Respect in Drinks Charter recognises the inherent value of every individual. It seeks to uphold everyone’s right to dignity, equality and fair treatment. It is a statement explicitly outlining what employees, customers and suppliers can expect from Drinks Association members and, in turn, what members expect from them.

Every signatory to the Charter makes the below pledges:

  • We have zero-tolerance for direct or indirect discriminatory behaviours, bullying, harassment or non-adherence to local laws and legislation.
  • We set clear expectations with regards to professional behaviour and conduct.
  • We provide an environment where everyone feels safe and respected.
  • We encourage the responsible consumption of alcohol.
  • We enable anyone to report breaches of this commitment via our member organisations' whistleblower hotlines.

Launching the Respect in Drinks Charter

Over the next few weeks, signatories will receive more information about the roll out of the Charter. The launch will include video content filmed with 15 Respect in Drinks champions from across the industry talking about respect, the Charter and what it means to them. We hope this will spark conversations and encourage you to think about respect and how you demonstrate this in your work every day.
