Embrace Difference State Chapters host inspiring events in WA & QLD

Embrace Difference State Chapters exist to offer networking and collaboration, and a platform to influence industry discussions around Diversity, Equity & Inclusion.

Two very successful events were hosted, on opposite sides of the country, during May.

WA State Chapter networking event with special guest, Brendan Pang
On Tuesday, May 7, the Western Australia State Chapter of the Drinks Association's Embrace Difference Council hosted a lunchtime networking event at Spring on Queen in Perth for around 55 drinks industry representatives.

Danny Savage (CUB) and Rene Holtzhausen (Asahi) hosted the event, which officially relaunched the WA State Chapter to the industry. They shared with the attendees the Chapter’s purpose and plans for the future, including key initiatives focused on supporting diversity and inclusion within the drinks community.

The highlight of the afternoon was an interview with special guest Brendan Pang, Perth cook, founder of Bumplings, and former MasterChef Australia Contestant (2018, 2020), led by former My Kitchen Rules contestant and current WA Brand Ambassador for Matilda Bay Brewery, Blake Proud.

The Q&A session with Brendan covered a wide range of topics but focused on how important connecting with people and networking was for Brendan’s career journey.

After the interview, the attendees enjoyed lunch and drinks and had the opportunity to continue the conversation with Brendan and Blake as well as network and connect with industry peers.

QLD State Chapter networking event with special guest, Shayne Hodson (Lion)
On Thursday, May 30th, a sell-out crowd gathered for the Qld Embrace Difference Chapter event at the vibrant Stone & Wood Brewery in Fortitude Valley.

Attendees were treated to an evening of inspiring networking and a powerful, authentic discussion led by Nicole Pares from Pernod Ricard as she interviewed Shayne Hodson, Head of Sales for Independents at Lion. Shayne shared his journey as a gay man in the liquor industry, captivating the audience with his candid storytelling and humor, and underscoring the transformative power of embracing diversity.

Shayne's vision for the future was truly inspiring. He painted a picture of an industry that thrives by attracting the best talent, irrespective of gender, race, or sexuality. His message resonated deeply with everyone present, igniting a sense of hope and commitment to fostering a more inclusive and diverse future.

The event also had a charitable dimension, with all proceeds going to The Bobby Goldsmith Foundation. A heartfelt thank you to all who attended and contributed to this meaningful cause.

The QLD State Chapter team eagerly look forward to welcoming you to their next event, where they continue to champion diversity and inclusion.
