CCEP harnesses the power of Darwin's sunshine

CCEP has installed a rooftop solar system at its Darwin site which it says takes the business further along the way to its target of being powered entirely by renewable electricity across all markets by 2030.

The 641 solar panel installation in Darwin was completed in January. The panels are connected by more than 8,000 metres of wire and will generate 420 megawatt-hours of power per annum, accounting for 74 per cent of the site's electricity needs with payback expected in four years.

The site in Darwin joins facilities in Eastern Creek (NSW), Kewdale (WA) and Richlands (QLD) that already have rooftop solar, with further solar projects in the works.

CCEP also entered into a long term agreement with Alinta Energy that commenced on 1 January and giving CCEP access to 13,000 MWh a year of renewable electricity supplied from the Yandin Wind Farm, located 175km north of Perth. CCEP say it is a landmark, eight-year agreement that will significantly bolster our commitment to tackling climate change.

CCEP Vice President & General Manager of Australia, Pacific, and Indonesia, Peter West said: “CCEP is taking serious action to reduce our carbon footprint across our operations, and as a global business, we have set bold targets. Our partnership with Alinta Energy brings us a step closer to achieving our target of 100% renewable electricity by 2025, which is one of the ways we’ll reach net zero by 2040.”

CCEP's climate commitment is outlined in its global This Is Forward sustainability action plan with the use of 100% renewable electricity (RE100) across all markets by 2030 just one of the targets in the plan. The plan focuses on six key social and environmental topics:

Climate action
Sustainable packaging
Water stewardship
The wellbeing of our people and those working across
our value chain
Consumer health and wellbeing
Our contribution to our local communities
