Some of the drinks industry's great places to work

A number of Drinks Association’s member and partner businesses have been recognised as exemplars of workplace culture. Campari was certified as a Great Place To Work in February and Treasury Wine Estates, Moët-Hennessy and, Corporate Partner GS1 all received Top 10 rankings in the AFR Boss Magazine’s Best Places to Work announced earlier this month.

Almost 150 employees, or Camparistas as they call themselves, completed the Great Place to Work survey in October last year. The overall participation score was 86%.
The Great Place to Work evaluates businesses according to five key pillars; pride, camaraderie, fairness, respect and credibility. Campari scored highest in the pillars of camaraderie and pride.
Human Resources Director ANZ, Nellie Tierney joined Campari on a year long contract covering parental leave in July last year. Since her commencement, Tierney has been impressed by the investment in people at Campari, “not just financially, but true consideration and air-time is given to our Camparistas”.
“In my 20+ year career, I’ve never been more encouraged by an organisation’s ability to walk the talk when it comes to culture, values and behaviours – it’s all lived and breathed at Campari, and lived and breathed exceedingly well,” she said.
Campari is dedicated, cohesive and passionate, and the culture of diversity and inclusion resonates right around the world. Tierney says, “There is genuine appreciation and recognition of the valuable contribution our Camparistas offer every day in every way.
“The most surprising, or perhaps pleasing, insight was that we surpassed the previous survey results during a global pandemic and achieved first-time certification.  The care and wellbeing that was offered to our Camparista’s during 2020 was above and beyond and demonstrates the strength of our Camparistas coming together in the face of adversity.”

TWE, Moët Hennessy and GS1 recognised in Top 10 Best Places to Work

Treasury Wine Estates (TWE), Moët Hennessy and GS1 were all listed in the 2021 Best Places to Work List. The prestigious annual list, published by The Australian Financial Review and Boss Magazine, is based on a rigorous assessment process managed by Australia’s leading behavioural science consultancy, Inventium.

TWE ranked second on the Manufacturing & Consumer Goods Best Places to Work list. Chief People Officer, Katie Hodgson said: “We pride ourselves on turning our ideas into action. Everyone rolls up their sleeves to make great things happen, which creates an infectious energy and momentum that people love to be around.

“The wine sector is a typically traditional and well-established industry, with centuries of rich heritage at its heart. At TWE we boldly lead change in the world of wine, in everything from world-class winemaking to technology, innovation and marketing.”

Last year TWE launched its TWE DNA which celebrates a culture that values diversity, courage and collaboration in a way that fosters a sense of belonging.

“We’re proud of the progressive and supportive culture we’re cultivating at TWE and we continue to work together to empower team members to bring their whole selves and be courageous at work," she said.

Moët Hennessy Australia & New Zealand ranked ninth in the same category. It is the first time the business has featured in the prestigious list and is a direct result of the organisation’s commitment to creating a more innovative, inclusive and connected workplace.

Moët Hennessy’s Shaping Change program, introduced globally in 2019, is transforming company culture by embedding new ways of working via the adoption of local and global initiatives. The program is built around a series of principles that put the consumer first, encourage innovation, agility and autonomy and nurture collaboration and inclusion among team members. Moët Hennessy balances the individual’s needs and development with a commitment to giving back to the community and the planet.

Andrew McLaren, Managing Director of Moët Hennessy Australia & New Zealand shared his thoughts: “This recognition is testament to the vision, commitment and energy of our entire team. We look forward to continuing to evolve our Shaping Change program, to ensure that our company continues to be innovative, diverse, flexible, inclusive and most importantly connected.”

GS1, the business that introduced barcoding to Australia in 1979, was ranked seventh in the category of Government, Education and Not For Profit Industry. GS1 works with 21,000 member companies, of all sizes, to become more efficient by implementing the GS1 system. They bring businesses, associations and industries together and have partnered with the Drinks Association on a strategic partnership to drive industry standards development and adoption to improve business and supply chain efficiency in the drinks industry.

Chief People and Culture Officer at GS1, Karen Littlepage said: ““We are delighted to be recognised as one of the best places to work by AFR Boss magazine. The safety and wellbeing of our staff has been a priority through this pandemic, as has been our commitment to job security and evolving flexible work practices and we remain focussed on this as we move into the new normal.”
